Bridge to Success Computer Training Program This two-day per week program helps you develop skills and confidence with the software you are likely to encounter in the workplace. Prerequisites: No prior experience with Microsoft Office is necessary; however, students with no computer experience should take the half-day Introduction to Computers course. Bridge to Success program topics include: Microsoft Word: Create, save and open a document. Edit and navigate within a document. Format text: change font style, size and effects; copy text formatting. Format paragraphs: change alignment, set tabs, indent paragraphs, line spacing, bulleted & numbered lists. Proofing a document: check spelling and grammar, use the Thesaurus. Control page appearance: margins, headers & footers. Microsoft Excel: Enter and select data, navigate a worksheet; save a workbook. Modify a worksheet: move and copy data; create series of data; edit data; insert and delete cells, columns and rows. Format: apply number formats; change font style, size, and effects; add borders and color to cells; change column width and row height; align cell contents. Perform calculations: create basic formulas, calculate with functions, copy formulas and functions. Prepare a worksheet for printing: set page margins, change page orientation, set a print range. Microsoft PowerPoint: Create and edit a presentation using slides or outline view. Format text and slide background. Enhance a presentation with clip art and other objects. Apply design templates and modify the slide master. Prepare a presentation for delivery: arrange slides, add transitions. Microsoft Outlook: Compose, send, receive messages. Schedule appointments and meetings. Manage contacts and tasks.
Introduction to Computers: Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel Introduction to Windows: Orientation to personal computers. Orientation to the Windows screen, adjusting mouse settings, the Start button. The Desktop: My Computer, Shortcuts. Running multiple programs: Using the taskbar, working with multiple windows. Managing documents and folders: orientation to Windows Explorer, creating folders, moving and copying objects, sorting and finding objects. Formatting a disk, copying and moving groups of documents. Using the Recycle Bin. The Shut Down command. Microsoft Word for Windows: Orientation to the MS Word Screen; selecting, deleting, copying and pasting text; changing font faces and sizes; paragraph & character formatting. Starting a new document, navigating the document, switching between open documents; previewing a document, printing a document, moving data from one program to another. Microsoft Excel for Windows: Data entry, entering labels and values, navigating a spreadsheet, writing formulas and functions, relative vs. absolute cell reference, selecting rows and columns, copying and moving data. Printing a spreadsheet, formatting text, formatting values, and saving files.
Intermediate Microsoft Word & Microsoft Excel for Windows Prerequisite: Introduction to Computers (Windows/Word/Excel), or equivalent knowledge. Intermediate Word: Review of Word basics. Beyond the Basics of formatting: character & paragraph features, bullets & numbering, borders & shading. Long Document Management: headers & footers, footnotes & endnotes, page numbers. Editorial Management: find & replace, comments, highlights. Tables: creating a table, selecting parts of a table, adding & deleting cells, converting text to table/table to text. Mail Merge: creating the main document, creating the data source, merging the data with the document. Intermediate Excel: Review of Excel basics. Advanced character & text formatting. Utilizing ranges. Copy & paste special. Understanding functions. Working with multiple windows & documents: workbook management, three-dimensional references, linking worksheets. Charting and graphing basics.
